    The Flaw in a Plan

While in the realm of normal man
our thoughts are formed and honed
and while most man indeed has plan,
    we non-conformist don't

For lady luck has kissed no plan
and oft they're doomed to fail
and though we try to future scan,
    foresight won't problem bail

We must act as the moment calls for it
    improvising as we go
for man will fall and dream forfeit
as far as we can know

What is the future but a maze
through which we run our lives
and while most run in frenzied craze
    the non-conformist thrives.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
