    The Flight

    The Flight

    I traveled through the concourse
I had slept part of the trip.
    Sis insisted, a goodbye lunch,
    I had to get a grip…
    Perhaps it was better,
we’d had a drink or two.
You see, I knew you’d be there,
    As onward home I flew.

My head was not too muddled
But my heart was racing wild.
I dropped my bag and stood there,
You held me like a child.
I looked at you and knew,
    No matter what we shared,
This would be the last time.
    I could not prepare.

    I looked into your eyes.
    I could see your heart.
    But, we made pleasantries,
    We always had that art.
I gave you a little gift,
    Something I had cherished.
    Something to hold on to,
    Knowing dreams had perished.

    The stop was too brief,
    A few moments in time.
All too soon it’s time to go,
You walked me to the line.
    I stood there just staring,
    Tears stood in my eyes.
I mouthed the words “I love you”,
    The same, your lips replied.

I tore my eyes from you.
    I entered down the path.
I sat there in that seat…
    Wishing life was past.
As long as I can breathe,
    I will know that flight,
Was the day we lost a dream,
    By doing what was right.

OH WOW...I am more than a little choked up by that one. Very well done.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
