Thought Thief

You think that you are really slick/ You think that you can get away/ You think you can just steal my ideas/ You think you won’t have to pay/ You feign an ignorant innocent face/ To hide you’re a liar and thief/ How you can still look yourself in the eye/ Is really beyond belief/ How stupid, callous, and naïve/ Must you truly be to believe/ That anyone could read these words/ And not know they come from me/ See stealing is stealing be it money or words/ Be it jewelry or even a car/ There are no degrees of larceny/ A thief is still what you are/ So any who read these words that I wrote/ Knows who owns each rhyme and phrase/ And they’re all laughing behind your back / And smiling to your face/ If you’re upset now, you see yourself/ This poem is all about you/ Don’t worry you can always lie again/ And say you wrote this one too.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
