    Two Deserts

We were thirsty and we drank all that we could....until there was no more.
His desert was an ocean away.....when he let go of my hand, my desert seemed to be everywhere, my feet sinking with each step as I tried to walk away.
The chatter around us struck me as cruel. The world should stop, even if just for a second...as some sort of homage to the broken, I guess.
But it doesn't and it won't....not ever
I think of you, as I am driving home from the airport, and my eyes fill so that I can no longer see the road.
I pull over and cry all of the salt out of my body. Until it is as dry as everything else feels.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
