When I must leave you

When I must leave you

When I must leave
you
When my lips must
feel the void
When my eyes must
suffer the ugliness
of the world
when my ears must
my arms must
my flesh must
perish
from the lack
of you
When I must
die
So come into
me
my precious
infuse me
with your
love
so that I
may
live.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
