    A symbol comes full circle

    why would the universe
let a symbol come full circle
    touching so many lives,
    making each of us whole
    Bringing with it confusion
    that touches our existence
    making us question
    the depths of our soul
    wanting to know
    the answer to the question
    asking the hardest one
    breaks up the pain
    gladly giving
    the token to its deserving
    hoping her love for it
    will cover its shame
    taking from us
    the burden it carries
    wanting to end
    the effects of the past
    never feeling closer
to the depths of its healing
    only hoping
    the sadness wont last
    only for a moment
    I held my family
    closer to each member,
    the covenant of one
what was broken for a lifetime
    was brought much closer
    A new beginning
    and an ending has come

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
