Destitute of Sight

Destitute of Sight

I wear blindfolds when watching
television so that I can't see
how society is robbing us of
our mentality

Monumental figures were to be
a symbol of hope in a land
where human figures lie,
cheat and swindle themselves
into office

I wear blindfolds while driving
through streets that lead to
dead end dreams

MLK had a dream, but his dream
wasn't to have his name placed
on streets in the slums of
BLACK communities

White congressional leaders
gave recognition to blacks this
way in order to make us happy
but we're not happy, still repressed
by the fact this country seems
to regress in ways that blindfold
our eyes

Refusing to allow me to see
where freedom of speech and religion
was taken

I wear blindfolds
when I see soldiers die
in a war that should not have
been

And I wear blindfolds hoping
when I stop spinning on the
US Merry-Go-Round
I'll land in peace instead of
pieces, so I position on
education

But I continue to be blindfolded
to obscure the optical illusion or mental
state of minority verses majority
as equable

Blindfolded, not in the physical
form but in the suggestive
while this country has been
blind for decades

I'm blindfolded at night
while asleep in fear of being invaded
by governmental laws corrupting
my psyche, so I wake up
screaming (WAKE UP!!!)
See what you've been missing
since the beginning of our time

Time to make a change and
unite a country called
The United States of America,
but we've never been united
only connected and pieced together
like a jigsaw puzzle

Yet we spend billions
trying to restore peace on
foreign ground while over looking
issues of our own town

Now how blind is that?

And still I wake up blindfolded
and screaming WAKE UP
and open your eyes and minds
to the realization that this country
is in need of a psychological
triple bypass to remove the
folds surrounding political campaigns

So until we as a people minorities
and others band together against
majority laws, their blindfolds
will continue to keep us in the dark
afraid to move and speak in terms
of equality

Wake up and remove your
blindfold America, wake up and
see America UN-blind
