Freedom but not Free

Poem Commentary

I lost my daughter and granddaughter in a wreck in 2008, and almost mine as well. i put myself on meds every since then and have refused to face the pain and grief. I have finally come to the conclusion that I have to move on and handle the grief and what comes with it to recover.

Freedom but not Free

I feel the agony running thru my veins
See him in our own lane
I have cut off the beast
That kept my memories on a leash

It is time to feel the pain and weep
Not hide it away in a foreign keep
The tears rush in like tidal waves
Have been coming for days

HE carries me when I can not walk
Gives me a voice when unable to talk
No more pills to void my thoughts
In a healing turmoil I am caught

Freedom from the numbing meds
But not free from grief in my head
Time and GOD will heal my pain
But until then the tears will rain

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
