Guilty By Assumption
He stood with a straight back
As the gavel dropped with a clack
His eyes stared forward
As they read his assumed deeds wayward
His hands rested at his side
As for those deeds the gallery they did chide
A tremor runs through the gallery
At what they deem silent foolery
Guilty think they he must be
For he stands there so silently
All eyes watched his unwavering form
As they read the deeds they say he performed
Softly he clears his throat
And silence prevails after that barely audible note
They wait anxiously for him to speak
Nothing heard aside from a few chairs that creak
Tension strangles the air
As he continues standing there
The he begins to speak
Appearing no longer to be meek
This is what he said
Two simple sentences in his stead
“You have already decided I did this,
What does it matter you can not prove this?”
A Shock runs through the crowd
Now that he has finally spoken aloud
Composed stood he still
Mentally prepared to pay the pipers bill
His words outraged the crowd
“hang him now:” some cried aloud
They dragged him from that hallowed hall
To hang him from a tree lined mall
Stock still stood he, as around his neck
The hangman did the rope check
A thin black veil obscured his face
As with a shove his crime was erased
As the gavel dropped with a clack
His eyes stared forward
As they read his assumed deeds wayward
His hands rested at his side
As for those deeds the gallery they did chide
A tremor runs through the gallery
At what they deem silent foolery
Guilty think they he must be
For he stands there so silently
All eyes watched his unwavering form
