    I mourn this night

    I mourn this night,
    it ends too soon
    this magic night
    when love did bloom
    an embered chance
    not yet a flame
    when evening fleets
    dawn brings restrain.
    I mourn this night
    as starlights fade
    and goddess sun
    the sky reclaims
    when every dream
    bespoke romance
    I mourn this night
    our shadows danced.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
