    Little Pink Slippers

    Little Pink Slippers

    I see Ariel Jammies with

    pink slippered feet,

    the memory’s still strong

    as past and present meet.

I see you on the “Big-Girl-Potty”

    Trying hard

    Not to disappoint your mommy

I see Chicken Pox and tears

    “mommy it itches so much”

I cry as I feel your pain,

wishing I could erase it with my touch

    I see Polly Pockets

    And Barbie’s galore,

    Strewn all around

    Across your floor

I see the first day on your bike,

    training wheels gone,

    Skinned knees and tears,

And a will that was sooo strong.

    I see school parties,

    And “Mom bring your no-bakes”

    You know my friends

    Love them better than cupcakes

    I see brown pig tails,

    And a demanding little girl

    Clothes just right,

    Still makes my mind whirl

    I see friends and toys

    Sleep-overs, dates and boys,

    Sneaking out, drinking…oops!

Yeah, you really put me through the hoops!

I’ve watched as your teen years

    Flew by so fast.

Now, my heart aches and yearns

    For what is long past

Now, standing before the alter on our lawn,

    my brown pig-tailed girl,

    pink slippers forever gone,

    will take Ryan’s hand

as together they will forever stand.

    Love Mom
