Rain

Rain

As I lie awake listening to the rain

My heart cries out from the wrenching pain.

Why can’t I get through this miserable life?

The hurt and pain and challenging strife.

I wish I were a raindrop falling from the sky

Just leave me alone, let me cry.

Somewhere deep, down inside,

My heart reveals the pain it hides.

I feel like a small animal fleeing in fear,

Go away, don’t look in the mirror.

I don’t want to see

What stares back at me.

I don’t want to face what lies ahead,

I’d rather stay here crying in bed.

Where I can listen to the rain quietly fall

Pitter-patter across my hearts wall.

No more questions, I don’t care anymore

Go away … leave… shut the door.

Please leave me alone to my rainy sleep

Soon morning will come to find my tears buried deep.

Painful poetry. Be careful what you wish for. It's not good to wish you were a raindrop.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
