Poem Commentary

As a recovering addict I've had to accept responsibility for all I have put my loved ones through. My responsibility is now to those addicts who still need help. I go to rehabs and such to spread the word that there is a better way. I hope these poems I have written in recovery help others too. Love to all my addicts out there, there is a better way.

Oh My Soul

Oh, my soul,
my God to thee,
how should I explain?
All I can say,
I was in pain and lost out in the rain.

Oh, my soul,
God set me free.
He took from me my shame.
For all the things I did to others,
I've accepted all the blame.

Oh, my soul,
my eyes were blind,
to all the drugs I've done.
After all the drugs I put in me,
I have to say I'm done.

Oh, my soul,
my God to thee,
I meant to come hom,e soon.
I wandered in the wild life,
I knew not what to do.

Oh, my soul,
my God to thee,
I shall not stray again.
I'll go out to spread the word.
I'll tell them where I've been.

I'll bring those home, who have been lost,
For thee I'll do this service.
For all those addicts,
I'll count the cost,
My soul, my God to thee.

My god. This is...absolutely brill. I think a quote from Robert Frost would be appropriate here: "A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words." Love and Peace FUBAR93

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
