    Postmodern Massacre

    Bedazzled by the wicked ways of lust,
    What has the world become?
    Egos flutter about, the rat race remains-
    From television to paper,
    From internet to magazine,
    The scene is the same.
    What indecent delights,
    What glorious shame.

    I found my way to the world,
    And thought a lover I’d be,
    But the superficiality has visited,
    And my emotions are deceased;
    Once filled with rays from the sun,
    I danced through creeks,
    And played with toy guns-
    But the innocence is over,
    The funeral has begun.

    I saw the ocean of cigarette butts,
    They lay about the streets,
    And all through the grass-
    A dirty reminder of the modern world,
    Boys and girls, once filled with wild eyes,
    And harmless souls,
    Become dirty forgotten ghosts,
    And to that, the elite toast.

    The mystery and the wonder,
    Vanish as bodies crash together,
    Like roaring waves in a storm;
    Our bodies attempting to escape,
    Trying desperately to become one,
    But the lie is revealed-
    Our bodies come and go alone.

    I once loved a girl,
    A girl sweet as can be,
    And we walked about the dying leaves,
    The frostbitten bushes,
    And the glistening flowers,
    And we bathed in the sun’s glory;
    But the world is no fantasy,
    And my life is no exception,
    So from that day forward,
    I learned to keep low expectations.

    So go for it lovers,
    Never hesitate to play the game,
    When you’re heart is destroyed,
    It’s only you to blame;
    But I never warned you,
    And I wouldn’t even try,
    Because this is our fate-
    You live, try to love, and die.

    If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
