    Reflections of My Love

I cast my stone into the lake,

with hope that ripples it shall make --

                                             reflections of my love.

The stone was lost, and, so, in turn,

I sought a fire that was to burn --

                                              reflections of my love.

The heat which rises from my flame,

burning desire that does remain --

                                              reflections of my love.

All I give are all my todays,

consumed with love not cast away --

                                              reflections of my love.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
