    The battle

As every captain of a ship
    Sailing in the sea knows
    You often run into storms
And go where the wind blows.
    Such is our relationship
    Struggling at each turn
But never losing an ounce of love
    Or losing passion’s burn.
    As does the captain occasionally
    At shore will look back
I’ll sometimes think of all our years
And find nothing that we lack.
The ship that we have chosen
    To take this wonderful ride
    Somehow does seem to manage
    To fight the constant tide.
    The captains of yesteryear
Always with the pirates did fight
And so I must now enter a battle
Which requires all of my might.
    The foe that I face
    Is neither heard or seen
But its power is never questioned
And its result can be so mean.
    I stand against this enemy
    With “us” on my mind.
Our future that is so fragile
    With a defeat can unwind.
As the captain of a fighting ship
    Does depend upon his crew
So now I look to the strength of our love
To bring me back to you.

    I so relate! Good job!

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
