    Poem Commentary

    Logic still does not reign. Spock

    The "I" Riddled
    greeted by morning pain
    mumble a half-hearted prayer:
    "be with me God, if you dare"
    --no sense putting on holy airs
    I'd have taken a cold shower
    but I'm a coward
    take the day   
    one by one
    my thoughts come
    walk don't run
    chew a package of gum
    I'll go far
    "Is this a race?"
    still driving a pace car
    no speed bumps
    nevertheless
    take my lumps
    a blow to my brain
    "think me to be insane?"
    when rumors are true
    whatever I do
    is frosting on the cake
    write some paperback letters
    send them to my betters
    don't have to sign
    they know mine
    altruism is a thin line
    just my luck
    she hands me junk
    want her job
    he's at the net
    hit a lob
    wink my eye
    get a kiss
    won't be long
    before I'm missed
    stitch a sampler
    live for the day
    they put mine
    in a frame
    take some medicine
    read a bit a Poe
    so the dictionary too
    two-million things to do
    crack a walnut
    giggle, pretend
    it's his head
    tune to golden-oldies
    hit the lights
    go to bed
    It's too damned fun
    being me, myself, and I.
