This Heart of Mine

This Heart of Mine

Here are the keys, unlock my doors, its been remodeled a little bit
you have your feet, so walk the floors, its tiles and carpets not quite so fit

Here's a candle, light up the room, its lights are out, the power cut.
You have your eyes, watch darkness loom; it’s too much risk to keep them shut

Upon that mantle a picture, of someone I once let in
he kept up house, through all his love, though shrouded in my sin

He brought forth light, like nothing else, that I had ever seen
yet still I let that candle melt and shadows danced obscene

The cracks along the wall, you must forgive them as they are
that window down the hall, it has been warped to stay ajar

So here's a blanket none the less, the cold prevails so keep it close
you lay your head upon the mess, within the heart that you have chose

The keys of changing locks, because I cannot keep them out
the shivers shakes a shocks all due to hurt and all this doubt

The candle lit to cast a light that once shined down from who knows where
though not as fluid, and not as bright, it helps me cope what isn't there

Alas these cracks upon the walls they've been repaired time and again
you seen them spread throughout the halls, where do they stop, where to begin

Here's a dustpan, if you must, to sweep the pieces sprawled about
sweep them to a corner with the rest, or throw them out

Do not touch the broken pieces of my heart, unless to mend
Too many times a worthy tenant brought about a crushing end.
