To and Fro

To and Fro

To the wind with the worries that trouble my mind,
and the cold to subdue, my bad memories behind

To the sea I set sail on a raft made of dreams,
for the tide carries forward, or at least, so it seems.

To the shore I look back, wishing everything to change,
yet if I'd never set sail, things would feel rather strange.

To the eye it might seem that I'm drifting to sea
And past worries and troubles, won't follow me.

To the sails on my raft, I can hear the wind blow,
I must tend to my flock, I must reap what I sew

From a distance I watch as the shore fades from view,
bow my head, all in prayer, that the lord see me through

From the pain comes a healing, that of which, makes you strong
Let the cold numb your senses, so the hurt won't last long.

From your mistakes, let them guide you, like the wind to a sail,
but don't let them take over, steer your raft at the tail.

From a friend, on the wind, a good wish or two
but the path that you choose, remains, up to you

From the sea a stiff wave, may toss you to and fro,
its all in your head, what you do, where you go.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
