Treasure

I hold this treasure deep inside, down where no one dares to travel
And when my heart is open wide, sometimes my hopes and dreams unravel

Whatever treasure this may be I can't control it, though I try
Whatever words that come from me, I might decipher by and by

Torn in two I find the pieces of this paper represent
a time or two throughout my life where I felt heaven sent

On one piece there was lust and overall a blatant evil
On the other there was sin, but it was met with great upheaval

Upon reading through the bible I find the phrase such thou art with me
But at times I feel his presence isn't there, so where might thou be

You see I'm searching through these hopes and dreams as quickly as I can
But I can't contain the memories of the ones that often stand

To reek remembrance of a past that I had thought forgotten
While another serves as present in this pain that I have fought in

So the treasure remains hidden in my heart and in my soul
But its glory is defined throughout compassion as a whole

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
