    When It Happened...

    The door was not locked.

He put the key in, it swung slowly

    Groaning slightly as it swayed..

    She didn’t take much,

    Some books and pictures

    He took inventory quickly

    always knew

    She had a light touch.

    He half expected

To find a note of explanation

On the table by the door

    She didn’t leave one.

    She’d washed the dishes

And left some lunch meat in the frig

Bread on the counter, swept the floor

    And left the bed done.

    It wasn’t for him

It was the trap she’d fallen into

    Worried more about opinion

    Than her own pain.

    He got a cold beer

Lit a cigarette and sat down

by the window, in the dark

    To watch the spring rain.

i love it..poignantly showing the trap that women fall in, more concerned about how the world perceive us while we forget about "us"... a true reflection..

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
