When you Smiled That Smile

When you Smiled That Smile

Upon your gaze were my eyes blind
Too much beauty to behold
I'd never seen a sight so kind
My hand then did I fold

When you smiled that smile
There was prayer in your eyes
Like Mother for Child
Stops the sweeping bise

When you laughed so hard
That tingle inside
Was muse for the bard
On you he relied

If all treasures man could find
Were gathered in one place
I'd still search forever
For your smiling face

I'd held you close so many times
And felt your warm embrace
Upon my heart you committed crimes
That time cannot erase

Day's will go on and time; continue
And I'll sleep for dreams' sake
But I can't live without you
From this sleep I'll never wake

In a plot do I now lie
With a broken heart
Even the Angel's heard my sigh
As you tore my world apart.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
