A Casual Stroll in the Glen

A fellow and myself
just on a simple walk,
quietly, patiently
no destination in mind.

Himself a bit frivolous,
myself contemplating.

The songbirds singing
ever melodious
innocent and unstained by events yet to unfold.
A pile of leaves here, shovel, disturbed earth there
disturbing thoughts overwhelming everything.

A thin coat of sweat
and triumph surrounding me.
I set the shovel to the side,
smiled upon my work,
and embarked on the lonely journey home
and the songbirds keep singing.
