Shade Above The Grave

I stand here.
I see those who come and go,
those who stay, but go
yet only I remain.
Time does not pass here.
The grass may grow,
seasons changed
but I still stand here
to watch over these stones.
Stones,
inscribed and décored
as fashionable for the time.
Placed upon the grassy pasture
and visited for a time.

Alas, time goes by
and here I stand.
No visitors come today.
No longer do these stones have meaning.
And I gather them
within my limbs.
No longer do they have meaning
to those who came before.
Those who now lie
in their own pastures
where another stands.
