    City Noise

The city does not sleep tonight.
    Nor seldom does it ever,
    and you there towering powerfully
    through sun and stormy weather.
Your lights within, both bright and dim
may soon be gone from view.
    Attributed to the gentle snores,
there is no sleep for you.
    Guardian, shelter, giant stone
    soak in these city sounds.
Bear witness to the passing time
on cracked and weed strewn grounds.
Now bear in mind, before my time
    you saw each rising dawn,
embrace the days yet to pass
when I am dead and gone.
The city does not sleep tonight

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

    Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
