    An Honest Farewell to the One I Love

    The last tears of departure
    roll down my cheeks
    that are stained with the blush
    of my morning laughter.
    My eyes are exposed
    looking down at the feet
    of my soon-to-miss love.
    Time is frozen with me;
    within this moment of my lost breath
    not knowing what the next step
    to take is.
    My hands start to tremble.....
    Holding my luggage,
    I tighten my grip
    to show a sense of conformity.
    I straighten my back,
    lift my head,
    and face the tall man before me.
    "Goodbye," I say
    with some sense of satisfaction -
    and quickly I turn around;
    the hands on the clock start
    to tick again
    as I step onto the evening train.

    A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
