Coffee Shop

I.

On my bike I ride

Over hills and into town

And today I settle

At the coffee shop.

By the window I sit

Through the door

People come and go

-I observe.

II.

A short-haired girl

With sandals and beads

I’ve seen her before-

Quiet and shy?

She seems maybe

-but I am as well.

Charms hang from

Her necklace

Beautifully polished

stones and crosses.

She reads her book,

And sips her tea,

She glances out the window,

She knows not how

I study her.

III.

The way you dress

And wear your hair,

You stand out

Especially to the poet

Across from you.

IV.

Soon I will go

We’ll pass

I’ll remember

This day with her

Was special.

Nothing more

Needs writing.

Nothing more

Needs saying.

You've captured the moment, committing it and her into poetic memory, to be relived again another day, by you and your audience...I enjoyed this piece...nice work!

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
