I.

Relief comes after the tears
but when will it come?
and how will it happen?
I never know.

I had a little portfolio
with loose papers
closed with a zipper
and this was my notebook
and it held my words.

II.

Now I hear the clicks
of little keys beneath my fingers
as my hand grows tired
from holding a pencil.

I am as a piano player
but the music I make
is read and heard
from different ears
but it is the same.

III.

I had an old typewriter
that made noises like a hammer
but I left it behind
when I moved.

I asked my father where it was
he didn't know
and couldn't find it...
until one day.

He discovered it
and brought it to me
and now I hear that same old sound again.

IV.

It's nice to have you
old friend
you were always there
and in my thoughts.

Now I feel relief
and soon I will stop
and out of the typewriter
I will remove this loose paper
all filled up.

So true..there is comfort in the familiar, especially when those creative urges call us to put pen to paper! I enjoyed the musical reference and sympathized with the satisfaction that comes from having filled the page with thoughts! Write on!

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.

T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) American-English poet and playwright.
