Poem Commentary

inspired by a picture i found on photobucket

Johnson

who have you become?

a stranger to the eyes

a hope in the mind of the organic suicide

a heart run with grief

a memory lost

of who you were before your time came

insight to knowing you're never going back

a human form is lost forever

hidden under the leaves

the stems rooted to nothing but what was once the palm of your hand

shed into a new being

claim your new name

i'll call you "flower" because no other name can suit you now

shed your clothes

your old skin

your old memory

and hold on to whatever you are now

look back at the life you once lived

and know that inside

deep in your soul

it's gone forever

just let it go

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
