Muddy Water

Muddy Water

Thoughts clouded in muddy water...

Nothing grounded in my mind.
Sinking with no one to hold me up against the grind.
The only comfort I take is knowing God is still there,
so my loneliness doesn't turn into despair.
Why is everyone so fixated in their lives?
when the poor are still poor, and the helpless still deprived?
Look up from the sidewalk!
Step out of your shoes!
Why don't you take a closer look around you?
We are the people, you'll forget me in mere seconds,
and our greeting too, while our half hearted smile beckons.
But then someone emerges, right out the blue,
smiling back and asking "Hey! How are you?"
So I'm reminded there is a pulse right here on Earth,
and goodness is on the countryside seated by the hearth,
and light is all around us, if we step out of the shade,
and our thoughts are most clear where our heart stays...

I know I'm extremely late but I wanted to thank you for all your wonderful comments :)

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
