Poem Commentary

this was written for my british literature class. it is a pantoum, where lines 2 and 4 of a stanza are repeated as lines 1 and 3 in the following stanza, etc. it is inspired by my lovely grandmother, whose life was all too short. hope i didnt keep you waiting too long, grandma.

my soft-skinned angel

My soft-skinned angel

Flying above me in the clouds

Her presence is a mystery to me

As she watches me live

Flying above me in the clouds

She is all alone

As she watches me live

Without her

She is all alone

Up in those white clouds

Without her

Her memory fades from our minds

Up in those white clouds

Her presence is a mystery to me

Her memory fades from our minds

My soft-skinned angel

So sad yet so beautifully written. Well done. I'm sure she would be proud.

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
