the heart i once called mine

the heart i once called mine

drop a rose on the wood
as a thorn pierces your skin
let go of a dream taken
take the tears that shouldn't have been

too much emotion for one soul
it cracks, it breaks under the weight
too much love not to be received
no longer do i feel safe

don't cry, it won't last forever
the hole in your chest will heal
your memories will soon fade away
but for now don't try to feel

the severed ties, the terrible lies
all that for one lost heart
the history that takes us back
the things not worth remark

i can feel your head on my shoulder
your hand in my hair
but when i turn to see you
there's nobody there

i cry myself to sleep
think of a message so blunt
i cling to the image that's slipping away
the fog with your picture on the front

pain so many have known
yet i feel so alone
without your arms holding me
keeping my pieces from scattering

sometimes things aren't fair
this is one of those times
when things don't go as planned
and someone is left behind

the burdens of my yesterdays
haunt each step i have made
you hold my hand
as i lay flowers on your grave

i smile at the laughter
the happy moments now gone
you were the best lesson i've learned
but no longer is your shoulder here to cry upon

as you say your last to me
the tears i refuse to fall
too many on your behalf
you are long gone

your life may be over
but mine continues to shine
and your hand will always hold
the heart i once called mine

i enjoy the second and fourth bait. those Rhytmes are very soul

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
