Poem # 1- my defeat of a poem

You said you would never belong

You said that you wouldn’t change our song.

But then you shattered my heart, and said goodbye

And yet again I was left alone by you to cry.

Then he came and made it ok

He said that things would be better after today.

He made me feel welcome, made me try new risks

With him, things were wonderful, and I wasn’t a mistress

He kidnapped me into his world, he did so with ease

And from his grasp I never wanted to leave.

‘You jump I jump’ he said when I wanted to quit

For he loves me for me, with all of my bits

He did thins you wouldn’t, knew things you couldn’t comprehend

With him, I felt as if everything broken would mend.

You left me, leaving me breathless with tears in my eyes,

But him, he promised we’d never say our goodbyes.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
