    The Wrong Century

    A little voice inside this head
    just says 'no'
    so just get up and go
    hoping the day
    will become noticeably brighter

    As you enter the room
    this chest becomes tighter
    a smothering personality
    is killing me

    Always he stands
    behind his mysterious actions
    not too gullible
    to wait for a reaction

    Finding his own way
    in a straight laced world
    that is becoming stranger
    they smile in your face
    to hide their real intentions

    Convert and subvert
    take away everything that you are
    wrap their fingers around your neck
    alone in the middle of nowhere

    Oh I suppose I'm quite biased
    so in thrall of my own breath
    but I'm not quite ready for a death
    that you dream of taking me to

    Go out and take a hard look
    gym bodies and all the ammenities
    but I'm not living in the here and now
    my head is stuck forever in the clouds

    Someone once professed to me
    that I was born into the wrong century
    but the past is forgotten now
    and all good and meaningful intentions
    are spoiled and rotten somehow

    this reminds me of a line from working class hero by john lennon ..."first you must learn how to smile as you kill", it is a true statement and some people dont mind stepping on others, I never could do it ,,guess that makes me a hero huh? well I wouldnt go so far as to call me that but I do believe we are treated the way you speak of in this poem. keep it up...baring your soul is doing me and Im sure many others alot of good.
