    What Happened to our Children

When children are small they bring so much joy
We enjoy watching them playing with their toys.
We take them to school for the first day
We feel guilty because we can't stay.
The nanny is there when they come home
To take care of them, so they won't be alone.
We buy them nice clothes and expensive cars
Our children want to live like the movie stars.
Many teens have already had plastic surgery
Parents spend a lot of money and don't seem
    to be worried.
We tell them it's important to get a good education
Work hard in college so we can attend their graduation.
Our children are committing heinous crimes
Many are dying before they reach their prime.
We teach them morals to know right from wrong
Prison is a place you don't want to call home.
Our children are suppose to be our future tomorrow
If we don't do something, we will be sorry.
We are their parents and need to understand
We have instill good values before he becomes a man.

As a father of 3 we can only try our best to teach them what we know and have lived. Buy for some reason most prefer to learn on their own. Some are able to make better choices then others. I work for a correction facility for young juvenile boys ages 13 to 21 I see and hear things every day. Most of us are more fortunate then others, most of us grow up with more then 1 parent. That seems to be a big problem , then for the most part the less fortunate end up in the state system then get lost. We can be the bst parent in the world be we are all different that is what make us individuals. Your poem speaks a lot of truth. Thank You..

Thank you for reading my poem. I have 2 daughters one is 36 and the other is 15. 'm a single parent now. I have to watch who my youngest daughter associates with. There is to much peer pressure.

Even though I don't have children, not even of age yet, I've often thought these same things. I don't feel like my generation will do any good for our world because we haven't taken in any valuable lessons in life. And we haven't learned. I completely agree with you, and it is a wonderful poem

Thank you for your response. I have 2 children age 36 and 15. Although I have tried to instill the same values into my children the younger generation think the same things do not apply. I have not wavered on my beliefs with my youngest daughter.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
