    Poem Commentary

written about my mother, but does it sound like yours?

    You know her...

    You know her...
She's the one who always has the answers,
though not the ones you seek.
And to approach her after 'curfew hour'
it's wise thought not to speak.
When she is mad, a look from her
      can turn you into Jell-O
but when you need cheering up,
she's the first to say hello.
She's the one who always got you
where you didn't really want to be.
And introduced you to 'that person'
you didn't really want to see.
She put up with all your gripes.
Got more pushy when you moaned.
She's the one who stayed up late,
making sure you safely got home.
She's the one who somehow knew,
when you had a bad day,
that a smile, and a hug,
would get you on your way.
Yes, we all know that person.
When it's stormy, she stays calm.
In a crisis, be it day or night,
you can find her, just yell, "MOM".
