Poem Commentary

Dedicated to my children.....

A Mother's Love

So strong is a mother's love,
That's why I believe it comes from God above.

We hold on tight to our daughters and sons,
It's not always easy, not always fun.

Wiping the tears that are there,
We love our children, we'll always care.

When we don't know what to say,
We are there, until the feelings of fear go away.

Even when we don't know what to do,
You better believe that we love you.

It doesn't matter what you do,
We will be standing next to you.

When you think we are hard and tough,
Oh, child of mine, that's a mother's love.

Child of mine, please understand,
When you fall, I'll reach out my hand.

To guide you on the path of life, I'll try,
To let you know I love you until I die.

There is nothing stronger than a mother's love,
Except the love of God from up above.

Woman of Many Names, you have yet another name. You are worthy of the name Mother. Your poem, to your children, is also a tribute to your heart that wrote it. You make we miss with weeping my own precious mother, who died the year before I was diagnosed. Since her death, I often feel in my heart the words of the old spiritual: "Sometimes I feel like a motherless child." Your children are fortunate to have been born to you, as I was fortunate to be born to my own loving Mother. Thinking of my Mother, and also thinking of you, I feel the words of Kahlil Gibran, who wrote: "In no language on earth is there any word more sacred than the word Mother." I commend that quotation to you. You deserve it as your own, not only as the good Mother of your children, but as someone who is able to give true Motherly love to motherless children--even if they are adult children--like me.

My dearest PoetWithCancer, You've done it again! The tears are streaming down my face. I am humbled by your words, your comments, your love for your mother and most importantly by you. ♥♥

Thanks, BlackKnight, I appreciate your input!

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
