Again

Your eyes burn me inside,
Searching my soul for what I can't hide.
The words on my lips are those I can't lie.
I hear you calling, but I fall behind again.

You know me better than I ever knew myself,
And you bent my emotions further than they felt.
You left me here with the lies I was dealt.
I reach for you, but I'm too far gone again.

Give me this pain so appealing,
It has to be better than the numbness I'm feeling.
Rethink all in this life you're releasing.
I try to hold on, but you're slipping away again.

Here I am chasing ghosts of then,
Constantly asking forever, "When?"
Writing the letters you would never send.
I wait for you, but you're lost to me again.

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
