    An Ordinary Man

    An Ordinary Man
    by
    Kelly M. Kirkpatrick

    He is restless and relentless.
    He is angry and confused.
He is loved, and he is hated.
    He is wanted and abused.
He has come across a notion.
He is working on the plan.
He is not the King of Hearts,
    Just an ordinary man.
He’s just doing what he can.

I once asked an angel for redemption.
“Not until you love,” was her reply.
She left me grasping for the reasons
    And drowning in unremitting lies.
Hush my lady, don’t you worry.
Keep alive the hope you have for me.
If I am master of the moment,
    The moment will be eternity.

One more hour for the company,
Another day ‘til I am free.
Why don’t they just let me be?
    Just keeping alive my dignity.
    Just keeping alive my sanity.

    He dwells within the music.
He is hungry for the night.
He is base, and he is beauty.
He is wrong, but he is right.
    He senses her emotion.
He will offer her his hand.
He is not the King of Hearts,
    Just an ordinary man.
He’s just doing what he can.

When you wake me in the morning,
Kiss my lips and greet the brave new day.
In you I find the magic and the meaning,
And by your side, I’ll forever stay.

One more hour in your company,
Another love I will never need.
What is it you see in me?
I know your love has set me free.
One more love was meant to be.

    He showers her with roses.
She brings beauty to his life.
    He’s a lost forlorn romantic
Who wants her for his wife.
    He knows he needs direction
If he’s to keep her as was planned.
He is not the King of Hearts,
    Just an ordinary man.
He’s just doing what he can.
