    Don't Deny Yourself

    Don’t Deny Yourself
    by
    Kelly M. Kirkpatrick

    User, abuser
    Three-time loser,
    Another night alone.
The people who once trusted you
    Are busy throwing stones.
    Make your peace with everyone.
    Make your peace your own.
Make your peace a daily rite.
    Stop waiting by the phone.

You can say you never loved me.
You can say you never cared.
You never meant to hurt me,
    But you were unaware.
Each time you picked the bottle up,
    Each time you tempted fate,
    I tasted fear and bitterness
    For time will not abate.

    Don’t deny yourself.
(I want to live with you.)
    Don’t deny yourself.
(Together we can see this through.)
    Don’t deny yourself.
(For if by choice you do,)
    You will deny me too.

    Winner, beginner,
I thought you were a sinner.
    We know who you are.
    Lead us on to ecstasy.
    Take us to the stars.
    There is time for everyone
    To realize a dream.
You know the road to insanity
Is like a whisper to a scream.

Why don’t you turn and walk away?
You know it’s time to leave.
It was the bottle that pulled you down,
    If you would just believe.
The walls you built around yourself
    Are all you really see.
    A touch, a look, a gentle voice
    Are all you really need.

    Don’t deny yourself.
(I want to live with you.)
    Don’t deny yourself.
(Together we can see this through.)
    Don’t deny yourself.
(For if by choice you do,)
    You will deny me too.

    Wow! Excellant!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
