    The Good Life

    The Good Life
    By
    Kelly M. Kirkpatrick

    She Wants the Good life.
    She Wants the American dream.
    She wants to party,
Even though it's later than it seems.
    She has her reasons.
She has her dreams with her tonight.
    She finds them pleasing.
One day her dreams will come to life.

But for now she'll work in the factory
    Doing time and making wage.
She thinks about the pretty girls
    Who fell upon the page
    Of T.V. Guides and centerfolds
    And fashion magazines,
Who climbed out of a gilded cage
    Onto the silver screen.

    The good life
    Is something everybody should know:
A job and a lover, a place of your own.
But when it seems good fortune
    Is not in the cards,
    You pick up an ace
    Who gives his regards.

    She wants the good life.
She wants a place in the sun.
    She wants to kiss you
    And ease your mind
    When the day is done.
    She has her reasons.
She has a need for you tonight.
    She'll have her season,
And you will share in her delight.

    One day
    Everything changes.
    One day
    Your worries are gone.
    One day
    You're traveling forward -
    The glory of living
    The words of a song.

    And so it is written:
    All stories must end.
    The wine and the roses
    Were only pretend.
    A child's tea party -
    Best wishes I send
To my grace and my lady.
    Say we parted as friends.

    She had a good life.
We all get what we deserve.
    She was a good wife.
    Her memory I will preserve
    Within this locket
And in my heart and in my soul.
    We reap the harvest
Before the bell begins to toll.

Wow. Very nice! The reason this poem is good is beacuse it is real. Everyone has dreams, and sometimes we forget about the guys we step on to get to them. I'm impressed.

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.

    Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) American poet.
