Bruised

This tattered heart of mine is full of holes and patchwork repairs,
The walls that were built came crumbling down with your smile.
It opened wide and let you in regardless of the whispered fears,
But you took my heart falsely and used for only a short while.

I handed it to you gladly with a smile and arms wide open,
You played with that heart for a time and tossed back at my feet.
I should have known better, but this romantic part of me was hopin'
To find a love that would stand the test of time, true, whole & complete.

You tell me that you are lost in a sea of indecision and confusion,
But my heart did nothing wrong and should not be given this abusin'.
You banter words, "I am sorry if I caused you any pain"
You gave no reason for the change of mind, so hurt remains.

Another cosmic lesson given for me to try to understand,
You were not the last forever love that God, for me, had planned.
So take your memories, your recited flowery lines of love & hope,
For next time, my love will not be that easy for you to rope.

I know with time, I will be fine once again without you,
I'll just be sitting here, learning to forget the hope we once knew.
I have picked up this tattered heart from the place you threw it - on the floor,
And need you to know that a future with you, is not in the picture anymore.
