Reflections on My Son's Wedding Day

    As the final countdown starts
Until the day you will take your wife
Memories stir of events held in my heart
and I count the blessings in my own life.

From my grandmother's words when first you came to be
She told me of a love that would grow strong and never die
And with the passing years, I too have come to see
Now I pass that wisdom to you - it is your turn to fly.

There is a world full of places and things to share
Beauty, peace, joy, comfort, love and laughter
These are but a few things to take to the one who cares
Remember to always do this and happiness will be there forever after.

I've watched you grow and mature to the person that stands today
And as I listen to the words that God has given to join you both into one
My eyes glisten with tears that threaten to fall and give way
For I understand well the journey that you've both begun.

To promise to love and cherish -- words that are meant forever
As you both have chosen each other
This sacred vow is meant to be broken never
You will now become husband, as well as son and brother.

I've known of your accomplishments & have always been so proud
I've watched when you felt discouraged and prayed silently,
There were times my opinion I did not give out loud
But rather stepped back and let you work things out watching quietly.

From the day I heard your first cry
Each time I looked at you
    I knew the reason why
Born on that morn was a love so genuine and true.

A love that saw your "first" at all new things,
One that worried when you cried
And smiled each time you found "new wings"
A love sometimes called "mom's pride".

For each fall, a piece of my heart broke
But when you got back up & rose to the challenge
I knew, even though no words were spoke,
You had achieved inner strength and balance.

Please know now and keep this always in mind
I've loved you since that first minute
Nothing can destroy that love for it is the heart that it binds
And now you have also brought your chosen partner in it.

With all my being, heart & soul
I wish you both - joy and love
The circle of life goes on & while it rolls
Gathers more to complete it, all the time guided from above
