Can I Use You
Lately I’ve noticed that I just can’t write
& I thought to myself, well what’s changed
Let’s see, it’s my usual routine, it’s late at night
I’ve got my pen & paper in hand, music playing
Nope nothing changed, oh...except for one thing
Before my every thought was about you
Resulting in countless poems with words spoken so true
But now that’s over & my feelings have faded
Now I find myself a bit frustrated
With a serious writers block
Without a thing to write about
My mind is a blank, oh how I hate it…
Ever since I’ve stopped writing about you
My poems are just words
No rhythm no rhyme no meaning
Like a piece of paper filled with a bunch of blah
In other words a whole lot of nothing
So I pulled out the book of poems that I made just for you
Hoping that I could find a little motivation
Or at least some kind of inspiration
As I read the poem “In Your Eyes”
I got a little visual & I remembered why
Everything I wrote for you came as no surprise
So that’s why I ask
Can I use you?
Will you be the subject of my story tonight
Can I focus just once more on your beautiful eyes
Your eyes that held me captive without a fight
Even though I believe I’ve moved on
& my heart finally decided to let go of something it held so tight
For whatever reason you’re the only person
That can give me that rhythm & rhyme
Put all kinds of meaning in whatever it is I decide to write
You are like the lyrics to my melody
The music to my song
& with you in mind, I know I can go on & on
I’m sure whatever I end up with will be
Something more like this & not like I did before
In where I wrote how I fell for you so hopelessly
So I hope that you’ll allow me to keep you as the focal point
In this...my so called poetry
& I thought to myself, well what’s changed
Let’s see, it’s my usual routine, it’s late at night
