Four AM And A Cup Of Coffee

Four am & a cup of coffee
Cigarette smoke burns my eyes.
Lookin through tears
Like rain on my windows
Broke down & wonderin why.
In a town, in a state
That I've never been.
Lost in this state of mind again.
Lonely & lost in the midst of friends.
Lonely & lost.

Four am & a cup of coffee
Newspapers just hit the street.
Lookin through years
Just like broken windows
The rug pulled from under my feet.
In my cup is the answer
That I've never found
Trapped in my world I spin round & 'round.
Beaten & stripped & thrown on the ground.
Beaten & stripped.

Four am & a cup of coffee
Even the drunks have gone home.
Lookin through time
Looks like stained-glass windows
There ain't been no reason or rhyme.
In my cup is the sermon
My world preached to me.
While the loves of my life never reached for me.
Tight ropes in hell you still teach to me.
Tight ropes in hell.

Four am & a cup of coffee
The waitress is punchin the clock.
Looked in my cup
Like my life, it is empty
Time to move on down the block.
Like this cafe' my life
Is a lonely place.
Like the customers here it still has no face.
Shoeless & torn, but still in the race.
Shoeless & torn.

Wonderful! The imagery in this is so vivid that reading it was like watching a video, and so familiar it could have been about me. Definitely a 10.

Dancinghawk, I thank you for you comments. They were very much to the hearts of what I wrote in each of them. Some people reasd "at" or "of" your poems; others "read", "feel" or even "live" your poem. You obviously fall into the latter group. Thank you. I plan to go to your page and "feel" and appreciate some of yours. Peace jeaglefeather

If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.
