Highway Road Gang
I have an awful hard job, working for the countyIt’s a technical job, listen to my friends
It’s a dangerous job, a car is coming our way
It’s a lifetime job, doing highway work
I’m a working highway crewman and it’s all I’ve ever done
But ridin in the county truck shore is lots of fun
Ridin in the dump-truck, three of us together
Creepin down the road, just looking for a hole
Pull off to the side, cars pile up behind us
Shovels in hand five minutes to go
No more work today, go ride around the county
Stop off for a break, down on the river bridge
Make an hour stop and drink a Coca-Cola
Sure does make me tired, doin dirty highway work
I gotta a life time job, working on the highway
It makes for real long days, ridin with my friends
And it’s a thankless job, filling in a pothole
But it’s a lifetime job, because it never ends
At every other job, people seem to hurry
We ain’t in no rush Mr. Pothole he can wait
It a life time job, ridin round the country
It’s the greatest job on earth there is doin highway work
