Old Wine-o

One day I was walking
down Bigalow street
I noticed a man
with no shoes on his feet
In his hand he held
a bottle of wine
Praising it as though
it was good and divine
I watched as he took a drink
and swallowed quite a bit
he didn't seem to notice me
or just didn't give a shit
I walked a little closer
and knelt down in front of him
he looked so much like me
I just could not get over it
I lifted up my hand
and brushed the hair from his eyes
"Are you ok?" I asked
He put on his best diguise
"I am alone" He said
"To this bottle I am bound,
I just want to go home
But it's a place I've never found".
I listened as he whispered
and it finally came to me
The stories my mother used to tell
about a man she loved, missing
"Sir, is your name John?"
I asked him very slow
I waited for an answer
But dreaded it so
"Yes, my name is John,
How did you know?"
My heart just dropped infront of me
This was my father from long ago
"Dad?" I choked out in a whisper
"Is it really you?"
Again I looked into his eyes
The answer, I already knew
"Where's your mom?" He asked me
as he attempted to stand on his feet
I could only shake my head
His eye's I couldn't meet
I mustard up an answer
though it sounded foriegn to me
"My mom is dead John,
She died in 2003".
He sat back down as if
he had felt a piercing blow
"I was lost and couldn't find my way,
I swear I didn't know"
I reached down and grabbed his hand
I thought my words through
"John, my mother told me,
What happened to you".
"She told me that you signed up,
and that you went away,
She said that you came up missing,
on one cold and rainy day".
"She looked and looked for you,
but was never able to find,
The man she loved so much,
but she never left you behind".
The old man sat and listened
and it dawned on me again
he looked so much like me
"God dad, where have you been?"
He shook his head in disbelief
and said with certainty
"I was not far, I watched you grow
and become the man I see".
