    Pieces

     It hurts,
    This hole where my heart should be.
    No matter what I tell myself,
    I cannot stop the agony.

    "It's not as bad as it seems."
    "It wasn't meant as it was said."
    Empty words I whisper to stop the pain.
    Still, desolation consumes me.

    You shouldn't be able to live through this.
    You shouldn't be left picking up the pieces.
    Especially when one is lost forever,
    And you will never be whole again.
