    Self Pity

     I hear of...

    Lives...
    Broken
    Tortured
    Forgotten
    Hidden
    Abused
    Suicidal
    Starving
    Suffering consequences for things they have never done

    Families...
    Torn apart
    Hating
    Screaming
    Abandoning
    Betrayed by the loved ones that they have come to trust

    Races...
    Murdered
    Loathed
    Tossed off
    Laughed at
    Feeling the wrath of indifference

    Countries...
    Killed
    Starving
    In poverty
    Breaking apart in every waking moment

    Yet, I occassionally look at my life,
    With sadness, disappointment, loathing...
    How can that be?
    How can I feel sorry for myself when all of these things are occurring?
    Still...
    As tears soak pillows every now and then...
    I continue to sympathize with myself for things that are not that bad...
    Is that really a crime?

    I cannot answer that, for I wonder it as well. I have a computer and TV and cell phone and DVD player, more than a poor person could ever dream of, and yet I pity myself for my petty problems. Does it make me ungrateful? a horrible person? wonderful poem...
