The music of a four year old

the laughter of other children vibrates through her,
as she clings to her mother,
yearning to stay away from this unfamiliar melody.
    a gentle tone,
    calming notes tumbling from
    a woman's lips
    lures her towards it.
    a whisper of a note,
    and her mother is gone,
    leaving her to weep gentle
notes that puddle at her feet
for others to collect and save.
    a note,
    unfamiliar and soft,
grows louder as the girl weeps,
    until it overpowers her.
she realizes their are other people here,
whos souls become the background melody
    as she steps forward
and takes her first solo song.
